Thomas Partey’s legal troubles have deepened after prosecutors in the United Kingdom approved further charges against the Ghana international, adding another layer of complexity to a case that has followed him for months.

The 32-year-old midfielder is now facing two additional counts of rape, as authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, according to reports from the British press.

These new accusations come on top of the six charges he is already contesting. Partey previously entered pleas of not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court last September.

The alleged incidents are said to date back to 2021 and 2022, a period when Partey was a regular fixture in the first team at a north London Premier League side. Formal charges were filed shortly after he departed the club at the end of June, when his contract expired.

He is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 13, to answer to the latest allegations. Partey remains on bail and is scheduled to face trial on November 2.

Under the terms of his bail, he is free to continue his professional career but must inform police at least 24 hours in advance of any travel outside the country and is barred from contacting the complainants.

On the football front, Partey has since moved to Spain, signing for Villarreal CF as a free agent following his departure from England. He has also remained in the setup of the Ghana national team, with the Black Stars preparing for fixtures against England national football team, Panama national football team and Croatia national football team.
