Germany-born forward Ilyas Ansah has opted against representing Ghana national football team at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, choosing instead to continue his development within Germany’s youth national setup.

The 21-year-old striker, who plays for 1. FC Union Berlin, had been under close observation from the Ghana Football Association and Black Stars head coach Otto Addo in recent months as they explored the possibility of bringing him into the senior national team ahead of the global tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Despite the interest from Ghana, Ansah has decided to remain committed to Germany’s youth programme for now, believing it offers the best environment for his growth at this stage of his career.

“I’ve decided to soak up everything I’m currently experiencing at Union and continue playing for the German U-21 team. After the U-21 European Championship, I’ll look into it next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won’t be going to the World Cup with Ghana,” Ansah explained as quoted by Tribuna.com.

The young attacker has already earned six caps for the Germany national under-21 football team and has scored once during that time. His current focus remains on establishing himself at Union Berlin while continuing to gain valuable experience with Germany’s youth side.

Ansah is expected to reassess his international future after the next U-21 European Championship, leaving the door slightly open regarding which country he may ultimately represent at senior level.
