Ghana is on the brink of appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars, with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams revealing that the long-running search has reached its decisive phase.

According to Adams, the Ghana Football Association has narrowed down its shortlist and is wrapping up final discussions with selected candidates. The process, he noted, is nearly complete, with only a handful of engagements left before a conclusive decision is made.

“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, latest by Monday (April, 13th), we should be able to announce our new coach. We’ve come very far. They still have just a few more to talk to,” he said on Channel One TV.

“Between Friday and Monday, we should be able to let you know.”

The imminent appointment comes in the wake of the departure of former head coach Otto Addo, a development that has left the national team without a technical leader at a pivotal moment in its preparations.

A number of high-profile tacticians have been strongly linked to the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, all of whom bring significant international experience to the table.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, Ghanaian authorities are eager to put a new structure in place as soon as possible. The Black Stars face a daunting task in the tournament, having been drawn alongside Panama, Croatia, and England in what promises to be a fiercely competitive group.

Adams expressed optimism that the timeline will be met, emphasizing the importance of giving the incoming coach ample time to assess the squad, implement his philosophy, and steer the team toward a strong World Cup campaign.
