Ghanaian top-flight side Berekum Chelsea have been thrown into mourning after confirming the heartbreaking death of their young forward, Dominic Frimpong, following a brutal armed robbery incident on Sunday evening.

The shocking attack unfolded as the team made their way back to Berekum after a Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 clash against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park, where they had suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Reports from the club indicate that their bus was ambushed along the Bibiani–Goaso highway, close to Ahyiresu. Heavily armed assailants are said to have obstructed the road, forcing the vehicle to stop abruptly. In the ensuing panic, players and officials were compelled to abandon the bus and scatter into nearby bushes in a desperate bid for safety.

Amid the chaos, several individuals sustained injuries. Frimpong, just 20 years old, tragically suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was quickly transported to Bibiani Government Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Ghana Police Service has initiated a full-scale manhunt for the perpetrators, who remain at large. Authorities are also working to account for all team members, as some are still unaccounted for after fleeing during the attack.

Frimpong had only recently joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with the deal expected to last through the remainder of the 2025/26 season. In his short stint, he made 13 appearances and found the net twice, showing glimpses of a promising future cut tragically short.
