Chris Davies has expressed cautious optimism over the condition of Ibrahim Osman following the winger’s injury scare during Birmingham City’s midweek victory over Preston North End.

Osman was withdrawn before halftime in the Blues’ 2-1 triumph on Wednesday after sustaining a concussion, cutting short what had already been an influential display.

The Ghanaian forward had played a decisive role in the match, finding the net and setting up another goal before being replaced in the 38th minute by Demarai Gray.

Speaking after the game, Davies highlighted both the nature of the incident and the player’s bravery in the moment.

“I think he went up for a header and he got knocked, and if anything, that’s credit to him, most wingers will duck out of it. He’s gone up to try to win a header, and he’s taken a knock and unfortunately could not carry on. I don’t know exactly what that means, but we took him and hopefully, he is back soon,” he said after the game.

The Birmingham boss is now hopeful the injury will not sideline Osman for long, especially with a crucial fixture against Bristol City looming on Saturday.

Since arriving on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion in January, Osman has steadily grown into a key attacking option. The young forward has registered two goals and two assists across 16 appearances, underlining his importance to Davies’ setup.

With his loan spell set to expire at the end of the campaign, Osman is expected to return to Brighton in the summer, but for now, Birmingham will be focused on getting him fit and available as they push through the final stretch of the season.
