Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been handed a significant lift with the long-awaited return of Ernest Nuamah from injury.

After spending over a year on the sidelines, the dynamic winger has finally made his way back onto the pitch, offering renewed optimism to the Black Stars and their technical bench led by Carlos Queiroz. His reappearance comes at a crucial moment as Ghana fine-tunes its squad ahead of the global tournament.

Ernest Nuamah at Olympique Lyonnais: salary, career, market value and more

Nuamah had been out of action since April 2025 following a severe ACL injury that halted his momentum during a promising spell.

The 22-year-old endured a frustrating recovery period lasting 391 days, missing a total of 54 matches. His return, albeit brief, came in a late substitute appearance where he featured for the final minutes at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, an important first step in his journey back to full fitness.

Ghana faces a daunting task at the World Cup, having been placed in a competitive group that includes England, Croatia, and Panama. In such a tightly contested pool, depth and attacking versatility will be vital.

That is where Nuamah’s return becomes especially valuable. Prior to his injury, he had begun to establish himself as a key figure in Ghana’s forward line, contributing two goals in five qualification matches. His speed, directness, and attacking instinct provide a different edge, one that could be decisive against elite opposition.

With the tournament drawing closer, the focus now shifts to rebuilding his sharpness and endurance. If Nuamah can rediscover his pre-injury form in time, he could emerge as one of Ghana’s most influential weapons on football’s biggest stage.
