Tolu Arokodare

Even though the Belgian Jupiler Pro League is already underway, Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare remains on the radar of several European clubs. Former Nigeria youth international Sambo Choji in an exclusive interview for Footy-Africa believes Arokodare has what it takes to thrive in Italy, citing his pace, strength, and overall physical presence as key attributes.

The 6’6” striker had an impressive campaign with Genk last season, scoring 23 goals and providing seven assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, a run of form that sparked interest from clubs in England and Germany.

Despite the transfer rumours, the Nigerian forward has stayed put at Genk and started the new season with them. However, fresh reports now link him with a potential move to Serie A side Atalanta.

Dominic Iorfa Backs Arokodare for Premier League Move

Italy’s top scorer last season, Mateo Retegui, has left the Bergamo-based club for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Qadsiah, leaving a notable gap up front. With Retegui’s departure, Atalanta are reportedly considering Arokodare as a possible replacement.

“If the rumours are true then I hope he makes the move to Italy, which I believe will suit his playing style,” Choji said.

“Tolu is big, strong and can head the ball well, and these are attributes needed for a striker to succeed in the Italian league known for their physicality. “The past 18 months have been good for Tolu (Arokodare) and I believe this is the time to move to a bigger league.

“He has a lot of competition in the Super Eagles and I think Italy will be a bigger window for him to show how far he has grown in the game. “I am really excited about Atalanta’s interest in the player. I hope the move happens,” Choji, who played in Germany, added.

Arokodare played for twenty minutes in the season opening 2-1 loss to Club Brugge but it will be left to see if he continues with the Genkies or not.
