Muhammed Cham to leave Slavia as contract nears ending

Austrian-Gambian midfielder Muhammed Cham is set to leave SK Slavia Praha at the end of his contract on June 30, 2026, bringing an end to a short spell with the Czech champions after the club reportedly decided against extending his stay beyond the current season, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Cham joined Slavia Praha from Turkish side Trabzonspor with hopes of reviving his career and becoming an important figure in the Czech top flight.

However, his time in Prague has been challenging, with limited opportunities preventing him from establishing himself as a regular starter in the team.

The 25-year-old featured in 22 matches for Slavia Praha across all competitions, but only managed five starts and accumulated just over 500 minutes on the pitch. Despite showing flashes of quality in midfield, competition for places and inconsistent game time made it difficult for him to cement a permanent role in the squad.

Earlier this year, following his return from the winter break in The Gambia, Cham publicly expressed his determination to improve his fitness and performance levels. The midfielder stated his ambition was not only to contribute more significantly to Slavia Praha’s campaign but also to earn a place in Austria’s national team setup ahead of the FIFA World Cup under coach Ralf Rangnick.

That ambition, however, has not materialised, as Cham ultimately missed out on securing a World Cup call-up. His reduced playing time throughout the season is believed to have affected his chances of breaking into Rangnick’s plans during a highly competitive period for places in the Austrian squad.

With his departure now approaching, attention will turn to the next step in Cham’s career as he looks for a fresh opportunity to regain regular football and rediscover the form that once made him one of the promising Austrian-Gambian midfielders in European football.
