German club 1. FC Saarbrücken have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign with the acquisition of Ghanaian forward Kelsey Owusu from Rot-Weiss Essen.
The club officially unveiled the young attacker on Tuesday, making him Saarbrucken’s first arrival of the summer as they begin shaping their team for the new season.
Owusu arrives after progressing through the ranks at Rot-Weiss Essen, where he earned valuable experience and continued to establish himself as one of the emerging young attacking players in Germany’s lower divisions.
Saarbrucken believe the Ghanaian’s qualities will add a new dimension to their attacking setup, particularly with his pace, direct style and ability to trouble defenders in one-on-one situations.

Sporting Director Markus Thiele expressed his delight after finalising the transfer and is confident the youngster suits the club’s football philosophy.
“We are delighted that we were able to sign Kelsey. He brings speed to our game, finds one-on-one solutions in attack, and fits very well into our coach’s playing philosophy. He also brings a fresh, positive attitude, which is also good for us,” Thiele said.
Owusu also shared his excitement after completing the switch, describing the move as the ideal next step in his career.
“I am very much looking forward to my new role at FCS. The talks with the management were very positive from the start and I immediately had the feeling that this step was exactly the right one for me,” he concluded.
