Portuguese giants FC Porto have signed Ghanaian youngster Gideon Octabil from Sunyani-based Division Two side Mavericks SC, sources have confirmed to Footy-Africa.
The 18-year-old winger has penned a three-year contract after Porto monitored his progress for an extended period before completing the move.
Sources say the Portuguese club had been scouting Octabil for some time and deliberately waited until he turned 18 before finalising the transfer.
The former Mavericks SC star will initially join Porto’s youth setup as the club looks to oversee his long-term development.
The move comes just two months after Octabil underwent a trial with German side Hamburger SV, further highlighting his growing reputation in Europe.
A left-footed winger who can operate on either flank, Octabil is highly regarded for his pace, dribbling ability and pressing, making him one of Ghana’s promising young talents.
