Inter Lagos owner Lanre Vigo in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has revealed how the club recognised Nigerian defender Adebisi Olamikun‘s immense potential, before him signing with Portuguese Primeira Liga side SC Braga.

“He was brought to us by his agent, Showunmi Balogun, and immediately we knew the boy was special. We quickly reached an agreement with his academy because we knew he would take our team to the next level,” he exclusively told Footy-Africa.

According to Vigo, Olamikun wasted little time establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, with the club’s coaching staff playing a crucial role in his development.

“Since he joined the club, he has been a regular starter. The coaches, especially Coach Giwa and the rest of the technical staff, worked extensively with him and played an integral role in his development to the point where Braga noticed him and decided to sign him.”

Vigo believes Olamikun possesses all the qualities required to thrive at the highest level despite his young age.

“He is a ball-playing centre-back who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet. He makes intelligent runs forward, reads the game exceptionally well and is an excellent player for someone his age. He is the kind of player you can always rely on.”

The Inter Lagos owner also disclosed that Braga were far from the only club pursuing the defender, revealing that interest came from England and Belgium before the Portuguese side secured the deal.

“There were a lot of clubs interested in him, including Queens Park Rangers in England. Unfortunately, he couldn’t attend trials there because we couldn’t get a visa. There were also clubs from Belgium monitoring him.”

“Braga heard about him and invited him for trials last summer, where he did extremely well. The transfer should actually have been completed in January, but his visa wasn’t ready in time, so he missed the winter transfer window. They came back for him this summer and now the deal has finally been completed.”

For Vigo, Braga represented more than just another European destination. It was the ideal environment for Olamikun’s long-term development.

“We felt Braga was the perfect fit for him because it’s an excellent club for a young player to develop. After speaking with their president and head of recruitment, we were convinced it was the right place for Adebisi.”

“The agents involved in the transfer shared the same opinion. Braga have a fantastic reputation for developing players before moving them on to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, so we believe this is the best step for his career.”

The 18-year-old centre-back has signed a long-term contract with the Minho Warriors, marking another major milestone in his rapidly rising career.

Olamikun was one of the standout performers for Inter Lagos during the 2025/26 season, playing a pivotal role as the club secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

His performances attracted widespread interest from clubs across Europe, but it was Braga that ultimately won the race for one of Nigeria’s most promising defensive talents.

A left-footed centre-back, Olamikun has built a reputation for his recovery pace, composure in possession and commanding aerial presence.football.

Olamikun now joins a club renowned for producing and developing elite talent, with Braga consistently competing at the top end of Portuguese football and regularly featuring in European competitions.ย He is expected to link up with Braga’s squad immediately for pre-season as he begins life in Portugal begins.
