Swedish top-flight club IFK Gothenburg have completed the signing of highly rated Nigerian midfielder Ifeoluwa Olowoporoku from Triple 44 Academy, ending a long pursuit of one of the country’s brightest young prospects.
The Swedish giants have monitored Olowoporoku’s development for several years, having first identified his talent when he was just 15 years old. During that period, the youngster spent time training with the club, leaving a strong impression on the coaching staff.
After turning 18, the midfielder has now officially completed his move to Gothenburg, signing a three-year contract as he embarks on the next chapter of his career in Europe.
The former Nigeria U17 international has already linked up with his new teammates and will be looking to establish himself as one of the latest Nigerian talents to shine in Scandinavian football.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Triple 44 Academy Chief Executive Officer Olatunji Okuku described Olowoporoku as a special talent destined for the very top of the game.
“Ife is a fantastic midfielder who will be a great asset to any team. He has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world,” Okuku said.
The academy boss reflected on the player’s remarkable journey through the ranks at Triple 44 Academy, revealing that his leadership qualities were evident from a very young age.
“With him, it has been quite a journey, to be honest. He was the captain of our Under-10 team, and by the time he reached the Under-13s, he had already become a natural leader. I remember the many tournaments where he won MVP awards and attracted several scholarship offers.”
“It was very easy to believe in him and in the project. The difficult part was the wait, but I’m delighted it has all been worth it.”
Okuku also disclosed that several clubs were interested in signing the talented midfielder but believes IFK Gothenburg is the ideal destination for his continued development.
“Yes, there were a lot of clubs interested in signing him, but that doesn’t really matter now. He has found a good home, and I sincerely hope he explodes at Gothenburg.”
The academy chief went on to highlight the qualities that make Olowoporoku one of Nigeria’s most exciting midfield prospects.
“Ife is an attack-minded midfielder. He is an excellent passer of the ball and has an incredible ability to create chances for his teammates. The number of assists he has produced for us is remarkable. He is also a true professional on and off the pitch, and I wish him nothing but success in this new adventure.”
Olowoporoku’s move is another significant milestone for Triple 44 Academy, which continues to establish itself as one of Nigeria’s leading talent factories, producing players capable of making the step into European football.
