Gambian defender Paul Colley is set to join Swedish top-flight side Mjällby AIF on loan from Gambian champions Medina United, with the deal including an option to make the transfer permanent, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The move has been facilitated by Gambian football agent Cherno Samba, with Colley currently waiting to receive his visa before travelling to Sweden to complete his medical and officially join the club.
Colley played an important role in Medina United’s historic campaign, helping the club secure their first-ever Gambia Football Federation League One title. He scored 10 goals in all competitions with 3 assists.
The transfer represents another pathway into European football for the young Gambian, who will now have the opportunity to test himself in Sweden and potentially earn a permanent move to Mjällby.
Medina United have also officially registered for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, with their preliminary-round opponents already confirmed. As a result, Colley’s move means he is unlikely to feature for the Gambian champions in their historic continental campaign.
For Colley, the move to Mjällby offers a new challenge and an opportunity to continue his development in European football, while Medina United will now prepare for their first-ever CAF Champions League adventure without one of the players who contributed to their historic league triumph.
