Nigerian winger Ridwan Sanusi completes loan move to AS Trenčín

Nigerian winger Ridwan Sanusi has joined AS Trenčín on loan from fellow Slovak side MŠK Žilina, giving the 23-year-old a new home in the Niké Liga for the rest of the season.

According to a source close to the deal, Sanusi fits the profile of what Trenčín were looking for, hence the move for the player.

“The team has been tracking him for some time, and they felt the time was right to bring him on board because of his versatility,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa. “Trenčín has a history with Nigerian wingers like Moses Simon and Collins Sor, and they just signed Mohammed Garba too, so I believe they know Sanusi can contribute a lot to the team.”

“He has played for some clubs around the country, so he has experience in that regard. There was talk of other clubs, but when the Trenčín offer came, we felt it was the right place for him to go and play. We will see what happens at the end of the season, but for now, we wish him well.”

The move was completed on Wednesday, with Trenčín confirming the arrival of the versatile forward as the transfer window drew to a close.

Sanusi has signed a contract with his new club running until 30 June 2027, though the current deal is a loan arrangement that keeps him in Slovakia’s top flight, with both his parent club and new side competing in the same division.

Trenčín will be Sanusi’s sixth Slovak club. He has previously played for ŠKF Sereď, Slavoj Trebišov, FK Pohronie, and FK Železiarne Podbrezová, before joining Žilina last year.

His most recent loan spell, at Podbrezová last season, saw him contribute three assists in 25 appearances as the club secured a sixth-place finish in the Niké Liga.

Sanusi will now be looking to bring that same end product to Trenčín, who will hope his pace and versatility on the right flank add another attacking option as they push for results in the second half of the campaign.
