Gambian youngster Paul Colley has officially completed his move to Swedish champions Mjällby AIF, joining the club from Medina United on loan with an option to buy.
His agent, Cherno Samba, has expressed strong confidence in the youngster’s potential and believes the move to Sweden is the right step at this stage of his development.
“This is a great move for the boy. The reason why we came behind this was that he needs to go and play straight away. He has all the attributes to do that. He is powerful, strong and quick. He can score in any little space.”
Samba also highlighted Colley’s mentality and work ethic, describing him as a humble player who is constantly looking to improve.
“Personally, I love this kid. He is very humble and hard-working. Sometimes, I have to tell him it is okay for the training he puts in. He just doesn’t stop. He is a workaholic and has a mentality that is unbreakable.”
The agent believes Colley now has a major opportunity to make his mark in Swedish football and continue his rise in Europe.
“He has a great chance to show himself in the Swedish league. He has a great chance to go to the top. We have all seen what he did in the Gambian league.”
Samba also underlined Colley’s versatility, revealing that the teenager can operate across multiple attacking positions.
“He can play as a right winger and on the left too. He is a number 10 and can play number 9. In every position he plays, you think he can play best there.”
The 18-year-old forward played a key role in Medina United’s historic Gambia Football Federation League One title-winning campaign, helping the club secure their first-ever league championship. Colley finished the season with an impressive 10 goals and 3 assists in all competitions.
