Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has attracted interest from Cypriot giants APOEL Nicosia, Footy-Africa can confirm, with sporting director Zisis Vryzas in contact over a possible move.
The 34-year-old forward is being considered by APOEL as the club looks to strengthen its attack before the close of the Cyprus transfer window.
A source close to the player told Footy-Africa.com that contact has been made with APOEL, while Ayew is also considering offers from other countries.
“There has been contact with APOEL and discussions are ongoing. We are studying their proposal as well as offers from other countries,” the source said.
The source added that Ayew remains keen to continue his career in Europe.
“Jordan is very ambitious and wants to continue playing in Europe. He is considering all the options before making a decision,” the source added.
Apollon Limassol are also understood to be considering a move for the Ghana international, but APOEL have emerged as the main Cypriot club currently exploring his situation.
Ayew is a free agent after leaving Leicester City, where he made 42 appearances and scored six goals in the Championship last season.
The experienced forward has previously played for Marseille, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City and Crystal Palace.
The Cyprus transfer window closes on September 9, giving APOEL and other interested clubs limited time to reach an agreement with Ayew.
