Spanish side Leganés have signed highly rated Nigerian wonderkid Jordan Gimsay to a long-term deal after he impressed on trials.
Ebuka Martins, who brokered the deal alongside his partners, exclusively told Footy-Africa that the youngster is one to watch. He knows that if the player continues to develop properly, he can become a bigger star than Yan Diomande, formerly of Leganés and now with Real Madrid.
“He is a player we have been watching for a while. I happened to watch his progress at an academy in the United Kingdom when he went there, and I liked the way he plays,” Martins said. “He plays like a modern-day offensive midfielder. He has good mobility, speed and good technical ability. I contacted my colleague in Spain, we spoke about him, and then we looked at him and were convinced he had something.”
“He has a lot of potential, so we invited him over to Leganés for trials, and there were so many people there too. Jordan was to go to Sweden after the Leganés trial, but the club did not want to release him because they said they had seen the new Diomande in him. They said he has every attribute to be like the Ivory Coast winger because he plays like him. He’s very skilful and good with or without the ball, and they did not want him to try at another club.”

“I believe he will develop more at Leganés because the talent is there, and Leganés as a club have a good track record with young players. He will be a big player soon and play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but for now he has to develop that talent the right way, in the right environment, and be an asset to Nigeria.”
“As a football developer and Johan Cruyff methodologist, I could see the potential really fast. I am happy Leganés saw what I saw, and I am happy for him. The next thing is for him to keep developing and become an important player in the future,” he added.
The teenager was picked up from the Quack Pro Football Tryout programmes, where he excelled, and has now been taken into the Leganés youth set-up that produced Ivorian star Yan Diomande.
The midfielder, who can also play as a winger, was supposed to travel to Sweden and Denmark for further trials after the Leganés showcase. The club decided they would not let him go to another team and signed him immediately to a long-term deal.
