Nigerian international and striker Taiwo Awoniyi is open to leaving Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day, with Werder Bremen emerging as one of the potential destinations, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
Awoniyi is no stranger to Bundesliga football, having enjoyed a prolific spell at Union Berlin, where he netted 20 goals in 43 appearances. Bremen and other unidentified teams are monitoring his situation closely, with talks expected to heat up as the window closes.
A source at Awoniyi’s agency, ROOF, told Footy-Africa exclusively: “Taiwo loves Nottingham Forest and appreciates everything the club has done for him, but he needs to be playing regularly. He has huge respect for the fans, but at 28, he’s entering his peak years. The Bundesliga holds good memories for him, and if the right offer comes, he’s open to making that move.”

The 28-year-old has struggled to secure a regular starting role at the City Ground under Nuno Espirito Santo, who has preferred Chris Wood as his first-choice striker. Awoniyi, who arrived as Forest’s marquee forward, has endured a difficult spell marked by injuries and a dip in form.
Further competition in the attacking department has come in the form of new arrivals Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo, both brought in to bolster the squad for their Europa League campaign. Awoniyi has yet to register a single minute this season, with sources suggesting a move away would suit both the player and the club.
Forest have started the new Premier League season relatively, taking four points from their opening three fixtures, but Awoniyi has yet to feature. Last season, he played 32 matches, and netted just two goals.
Meanwhile, on the international stage, Awoniyi, whose Transfermarkt value is estimated at €16 million, has featured 10 times for the Nigeria senior team, scoring two times.
