Russian powerhouse Spartak Moscow are making a strong push to sign Ghanaian international Alexander Djiku from Fenerbahçe before their transfer window closes on Wednesday, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.

The 31-year-old centre-back, who has one year left on his contract with the Turkish giants, has emerged as a top defensive target for Spartak as they continue to bolster their squad this campaign.

A source close to Djiku exclusively confirmed to Footy-Africa that talks with Spartak are progressing positively, with the club eager to land the experienced defender on a permanent deal. However, the source also added that Besiktas are still interested, with their transfer deadline set for Thursday.

“Spartak see Djiku as a leader and want him to anchor their defence. The club is willing to meet Fenerbahçe’s valuation, and discussions have been very constructive. Besiktas remain very interested, but they know the competition is stiff. They admire his composure and ability to play in multiple positions,” the source exclusively revealed.

While Spartak are leading the chase, Turkish rivals Besiktas are also keen to bring Djiku to Istanbul. The Black Eagles, whose transfer window remains open until Thursday, view the versatile Ghanaian as the ideal addition to strengthen their backline. Club officials are reportedly working behind the scenes to match Spartak’s level of intent.

Djiku, who has impressed since joining Fenerbahçe in 2023, is valued at around €6.5 million by Transfermarkt. Last season, Djiku made 38 appearances across all competitions. At the international stage, he has made 33 caps, chipping in with two goals in the coveted shirt.
