Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho’s Spanish stint has officially come to an end, with the Nigerian international and Sevilla mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.

Sources close to Footy-Africa exclusively revealed that the forward is already in talks with Scottish champions Celtic and two English Championship sides.

Sevilla FC terminated Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju, who enjoyed a successful career in Spain with Racing Santander, believes Iheanacho still has plenty to offer.

“I am a fan of Iheanacho and I believe he still has a lot to give the game even at this stage of his career,” Adepoju said in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa. “He has not had it good for some time now, but that is how football is. There are the good times and the bad times”

“But as you told me, I am not surprised Celtic want him. He has a lot of experience playing top football for the Super Eagles and also in Europe. Also, the two clubs in the Championship you hinted about will get a good addition to their team if they decide to sign him. I believe he has a lot of goals in him. Hopefully, he gets a contract soon so that he can start scoring goals again,” he added.

Iheanacho joined the La Liga side at the start of the 2024/25 season, but his time in Spain never quite took off.

Limited game time saw him loaned out to Middlesbrough in the English Championship during the winter transfer window, where he registered one goal and two assists. However, the move was not made permanent, forcing a return to Sevilla.

Back in Spain, the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner failed to earn a single start this season, and on transfer deadline day, both parties decided to part ways.

The decision now leaves Iheanacho, 28, as a free agent, able to negotiate with interested clubs.

In his time with the Spanish club, Iheanacho made 11 appearances for Sevilla in all competitions, scoring three goals.
