Russian giants Spartak Moscow have reached an agreement in principle with Fenerbahçe defender Alexander Djiku, with the Ghanaian international now set to sign a permanent deal before the Russian transfer window closes on Friday, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.

Djiku, 31, has been Spartak’s top defensive target this summer, and negotiations with the Turkish side have accelerated in recent days. Sources close to the player confirm that only final details remain before the experienced centre-back puts pen to paper on his contract with the Moscow-based club.

The move comes hot on the heels of a successful international break for Djiku, who scored the decisive goal as Ghana edged Mali 1-0 on Monday in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier. The commanding defender’s leadership and versatility have made him one of the most coveted names in the late stages of the transfer window.

“There have been a lot of discussions behind closed doors, and Djiku made sure he joined the national team after finishing up the complex bits of the deal, as he didn’t want distractions while in camp. There is a verbal agreement for the deal to be official before Friday,” an exclusive source close to the player revealed to Footy-Africa.

While Besiktas were also in the race, Spartak have moved swiftly to secure the deal, with the Turkish side unlikely to match the Russians’ ambition and financial package.

Djiku, who joined Fenerbahçe in 2023, is valued at around €6.5 million and made 38 appearances across all competitions last season. On the international stage, the dependable defender has earned 34 caps for Ghana, scoring twice, including his match-winning header against Mali this week.
