Spartak Moscow have officially announced the signing of Ghana international Alexander Djiku from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe. The experienced centre-back has penned a two-year contract and will wear the number four shirt for the Russian Premier League side.

“Our club and Turkish Fenerbahce have concluded a deal for the transfer of Ghana national team defender Alexander Djiku,” Spartak confirmed in their statement.

“We warmly welcome the Ghanaian defender to Spartak, who will play for the red-and-whites under number four, and wish him success!”

The 31-year-old defender is a product of French football, having risen through the ranks at Bastia before stints with Caen and Strasbourg, where he became a Ligue 1 regular. Djiku made 117 appearances and scored three goals for Strasbourg, earning his first Ghana call-up in 2020.

Since then, he has represented the Black Stars 34 times, netting two goals and featuring in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he played two matches.
