Arsenal winger Charles Sagoe Jr has turned down an international call-up from Liberia as he sets his sights on representing Ghana, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
The 21-year-old, born in England to a Ghanaian father and Liberian mother, was invited by the Liberia Football Association during the current international window but declined the offer.

A source close to the player exclusively confirmed to Footy-Africa that Sagoe Jr’s priority is to play for the Black Stars when the opportunity arises.
“Charles has only eyes for Ghana,” the source said. “He appreciates Liberia’s interest but wants to represent his father’s country when the time comes.”
Liberia head coach Thomas Kojo had earlier disclosed that the federation had formally contacted Arsenal to secure the player’s release, but admitted that Sagoe Jr’s family preferred to wait before making a commitment.
Sagoe Jr, who made his senior debut for Arsenal in the 2023 League Cup, has been in excellent form for the club’s U21 side this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in seven matches. His performances have earned him a nomination for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August.
