Ghanaian international Jerome Opoku has emerged as a serious target for Premier League clubs during the ongoing summer transfer window, Footy-Africa has learned.

According to a close source to the player’s camp, Burnley and Leeds United are leading the chase for the towering center-back, while Everton are also monitoring his situation closely.

“Premier League new boys Burnley and Leeds are interested, with Everton sniffing around,” the source confirmed.

Opoku, 26, had an impressive campaign with İstanbul Başakşehir in the Turkish Super Lig, making 47 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals, two of which came from the penalty spot, underlining the club’s trust in his ability and composure.

The English-born defender stands at 1.97 metres and is known for his physical presence, aerial strength, and calmness on the ball, traits that both Burnley and Leeds believe align with their Premier League survival ambitions.

Opoku joined Başakşehir from Portuguese side Arouca in 2024 for €1,5 million and has since established himself as a key figure in their defensive setup.

His current market value is estimated at €5 million by Transfermarkt, though a slightly lower fee could be enough to tempt the Turkish side, given the player’s desire to return to England.

Having begun his career at Fulham, a return to the country where it all started is seen as an appealing prospect for the defender, who has earned caps for the Ghana national team since making his debut in 2023.
