Hugely experienced and versatile Ugandan winger Gadhafi Kiwanuka is on the verge of making a switch from lower English side Parkgate FC to EFL Championship outfit Charlton Athletic FC, exclusive sources have told Footy-Africa.

This comes after Charlton Athletic advanced talks with Parkgate and Kiwanuka for the latter to cross over to English football’s second division, which represents a massive career leap. His contract with Parkgate is set to run down in less than a month, and he had declined to extend.

A source at FEMO, who are Kiwanuka’s representatives, has exclusively confirmed the development, indicating that Charlton Athletic have tabled a three-year contract to the player, with medical tests scheduled for the incoming week.

“The talks have been ongoing behind closed doors, and now they are in the advanced stages, with Kiwanuka accepting the contract offer and terms from Charlton Athletic. He has been clear for months that he didn’t want to renew the contract at Parkgate, which accelerated the negotiations. The side will receive a small compensation for the remainder of his contract,” the source exclusively revealed to Footy-Africa.

Since joining Parkgate from Wombwell FC less than a year back, Kiwanuka has played 19 times, with five goals and seven assists. In the 2023/24 campaign at Wombwell, the 28-year-old made 28 appearances in the Northern Counties East League One, scoring five goals, and assisting on four occasions.

Previously, Kiwanuka has featured for Athersely FC in England, Kampala Junior Team (KJT), Rwenshama and KCCA FC in the Uganda Premier League. With the latter, he won two league championships.

Meanwhile, for the Uganda national senior team, the Cranes, Kiwanuka has received two summonses, both of which came under former head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic. He also played for the national Under-23s team in 2015.
