Ghana forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh exclusively for Footy-Africa says he is ready to embrace a new challenge following his move to Swiss second-tier side FC Aarau, just days after parting ways with FC Zurich.

The 23-year-old, who signed a two-year deal with Aarau, is hoping to revive his career after a difficult spell at Zurich where he managed only two goals and four assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Much of his time was spent playing with the club’s junior side, despite joining with high expectations after his standout performances with Hearts of Oak and the Ghana national team.

“I’m excited and really looking forward to this new challenge,” Barnieh told Footy-Africa.com in an exclusive interview. My time at Zurich didn’t go the way I had hoped, but that’s part of the journey in football. Not everything works out the way you plan, and I have learned a lot from that experience. This new move feels like a fresh start, and I’m hopeful it will give me the chance to get back to my best.”

FC Aarau finished second in the 2024/25 Swiss Challenge League, nine points behind winners FC Thun. Barnieh now has the opportunity to contribute to a promotion push as he works to rediscover his form and rebuild his confidence.

Having been part of Black Stars squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Barnieh will be hoping this new chapter puts him back on the path many had once tipped him to follow.
