Former Ghana U20 forward James Ampofo says he is eager to make an impact at Norwegian top-flight side Strømsgodset IF after completing his transfer from Raufoss IL.

The 21-year-old sealed a three-and-a-half-year deal on Wednesday after passing his medical, becoming the latest Ghanaian to step into the Eliteserien.

Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa.com, Ampofo said he is fully focused on contributing to the team’s objectives while chasing his personal ambitions.

“I’m happy to be at Strømsgodset. Ready to put in the hard work to achieve the target of the club and achieve my goals as a player as well. I am a striker and I just want to score a lot of goals whenever I step on the pitch,” he said.

Ampofo’s form in the Norwegian second tier caught attention this season after scoring six goals and providing one assist in 12 matches for Raufoss. His performances sparked interest from top clubs including Sarpsborg and Bryne, but Strømsgodset moved swiftly to secure his signature.

He first rose to prominence during Ghana’s 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Mauritania under coach Abdul Karim Zito, debuting in the semi-final win over Cameroon. The former Koforidua Semper Fi striker also played in Greece with AO Episkopi Rethymnou before moving to Norway.

Now at Strømsgodset, Ampofo is looking to take the next step.

“This is a big opportunity for me to test myself in a top league. I’ve worked hard to get here, and now I want to deliver.”

The club is counting on the Ghanaian’s energy, speed and finishing instincts to strengthen their attack in the second half of the Eliteserien campaign.
