Scottish side Ross County have wrapped up the permanent signing of St Johnstone forward Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru, completing a deal that had been gathering momentum earlier in the day.

The Dingwall outfit moved swiftly to reinforce their attacking options after losing Ronan Hale to Gillingham last week, snapping up the Uganda international from one of their Championship competitors. The move strengthens County’s forward department as they look to sharpen their edge in the second half of the campaign.

Ikpeazu arrives in the Highlands with a broad footballing CV. The powerful striker has spent the last year and a half at St Johnstone and is no stranger to Scottish football, having previously featured for Hearts. His career has also taken him south of the border, where he turned out for clubs including Middlesbrough and Cardiff City between his stints in Scotland.

The 29-year-old will step straight into Hale’s vacated number nine shirt, with hopes high that his presence can add a new dimension to County’s attack and inject much-needed bite in the final third.

Manager Stuart Kettlewell welcomed the capture, praising both the striker’s profile and mentality:

“I’m delighted to be adding Uche to the squad. He brings a wealth of experience to the club, having had successful spells in both Scotland and England, as well as having six international caps for Uganda. Uche brings a different style of play to our forward line, he is a great physical presence, and is a real handful in and around the forward areas. His hunger and attitude fit in well with the group, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Ikpeazu becomes County’s second recruit of the window after the earlier arrival of Poland youth international Levis Pitan, as the Staggies continue to reshape their squad.

The club has also seen a flurry of exits, with George Robesten, Jack Wells-Morrison, Scott Fraser and Hale all departing Dingwall, while talks remain ongoing over further changes before the window closes.

The new signing could be thrown straight into the action, with County set to face Queen’s Park in Championship action on Tuesday night. Kettlewell will be hoping Ikpeazu’s inclusion can spark a response following last weekend’s setback against Morton.
