Belgian Jupiler Pro League side KAA Gent are eyeing a move for Nigerian youth international Akinnarian Oluwashile, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.

The defensive midfielder has long been on the radar of the Belgian club following his standout performances for the Nigeria U-20 side during the WAFU B tournament.

Oluwashile has now arrived in Belgium to begin a trial period with Gent’s ‘Team B’ as he looks to secure a permanent move to Europe. He traveled alongside his representative Jordy Engelbinck, a prominent figure in the Belgian football agency scene.

The teenager will spend the coming weeks with the club’s development squad, where he is expected to showcase the qualities that made him one of the most highly-rated prospects in West African youth football.

Should he impress the technical staff, Gent are expected to offer the midfielder a professional contract. However, any formal agreement will likely be deferred until he celebrates his 18th birthday on 18 October 2026.

Gent have a storied history of nurturing Nigerian talent. If the move is finalized, Oluwashile would follow in the footsteps of Super Eagles stars such as Moses Simon, Gift Orban, and Samuel Kalu. Other notable Nigerians to have represented the Buffalos include William Troost-Ekong, Jordan Torunarigha, and former national team coach Augustine Eguavoen.
