Andre Ayew is staying composed after being left out of Ghana’s latest squad, despite his recent performances in the Dutch Eredivisie, a source close to the player has told Footy-Africa.

The source revealed that the experienced forward had anticipated a recall following his positive start at NAC Breda, where he recently scored his first goal since joining the club.

“He was expecting to be called up because he feels good and has been performing well,” the source said. “But Andre is calm about it. He respects the decision and is focused on continuing his work at club level.”

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player, last featured in a competitive match for the national team against Mozambique at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in early 2024. He later made a brief return in a friendly, playing 12 minutes against Uganda on March 26.

Addo set to leave out Ayew for Austria and Germany games

Despite the setback, the 34-year-old remains confident of forcing his way back into contention ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“He believes he still has a lot to offer,” the source added. “His target is the World Cup, and he is determined to do everything possible to be part of that squad.”

Ghana have been drawn alongside England, Croatia and Panama for the tournament, and Ayew is said to be motivated by the challenge of competing on the biggest stage once again.

For now, the forward’s focus remains on maintaining his form in the Netherlands, as he looks to strengthen his case for a return to the Black Stars.
