Zambia U-17 winger Kelvin Chipelu is set to take a major step in his young career after securing a trial opportunity with Spanish side CD Leganés, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
The highly-rated Forest Rangers winger has left Lusaka on Wednesday and is expected to spend a month in Spain, where he will train and be assessed by the club’s technical bench.
Chipelu has been one of the standout performers at youth level, earning recognition for his pace, creativity, and ability to take on defenders. His performances for Zambia’s U-17 setup have also drawn attention from scouts beyond the country’s borders, making this move a natural progression in his development.
Sources close to the player have told Footy-Africa that “the trial will involve participation in training sessions as well as friendly matches, giving the Spanish side a comprehensive look at his technical ability, tactical understanding, and adaptability.”
A successful stint could open the door to a long-term deal in Europe, marking another milestone for Zambian football as more young talents continue to break into international markets.
Chipelu was one of the standout performers at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup where he started all the matches and scored against Hondurus in 5-2 victory for the junior Chipolopolo Boys.
