Premier League side Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up a move for Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Magpies are expected to strengthen their squad in the summer after a difficult campaign in which they are set to end the season trophyless and also miss out on an European spot.

The club could also lose two of their key midfielders this summer, with captain Bruno Guimaraes and Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali attracting interest from top European clubs and could be set for an exit, especially with no Champions League football available at St James Park next season.

Tonali in particular is the most likely to leave, with interest from the likes of Arsenal, Juventus, Chelsea and Real Madrid, and Newcastle United have already identified AS Monaco’s Camara as a suitable replacement.

Profile

Camara joined Monaco from Metz in 2024 and has already become one of their key players since his arrival at the club and has already stood out for his physicality and impressive passing ability.

The 22-year-old has already made 68 appearances across all competitions for Monaco, including 28 this season as the club pursue a top four finish in the French Ligue 1 to seal a return to the UEFA Champions League.

The Senegalese midfielder’s versatility would also make him a great fit if he ends up in the Premier League. Camara is comfortable playing in central midfield and can also deputize strongly in a deeper role in the midfield, given his work rate.

According to Transfermarkt, Lamine Camara has a market value of around €35 million, which ranks him as AS Monaco’s second most valuable player and also the fourth most valuable Senegalese footballer in the world.

However, Monaco have reportedly placed a price tag of around €75 million to consider a sale, which could make the young midfielder one of the most expensive departures in the history of the French club.

With Liverpool and Chelsea also monitoring the situation of the 22-year-old, Newcastle United must make their decision in time to avoid losing the talented midfielder to their rivals.
