Thomas Partey is expected to part ways with Villarreal CF at the end of the current campaign, with reports indicating the La Liga side will not trigger the extension option in his contract.
The Ghanaian midfielder arrived at Villarreal last summer after bringing his stint with Arsenal FC to a close. He penned a one-year agreement with the Yellow Submarine, though the deal contained a clause that could have prolonged his stay for another season.
Despite flashes of his quality and experience, Partey’s time in Spain has been disrupted by recurring fitness concerns. A series of minor injury problems prevented the 31-year-old from maintaining momentum and securing a permanent place in the starting lineup.
Although he featured 30 times in all competitions, the former Atlético Madrid midfielder struggled to become an undisputed figure in the team’s midfield setup.

As the season draws to a close, Villarreal have reportedly opted against extending his contract, a decision that will see Partey become available on a free transfer ahead of the summer window.
Even so, the experienced midfielder is still expected to remain a key figure for the Ghana national football team heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Partey is widely tipped to earn a place in Ghana’s squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico as the Black Stars continue preparations for football’s biggest global showpiece.
