Portuguese champions Porto are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Ivorian midfielder Seko Fofana on a permanent deal from French club Rennes ahead of the summer transfer window.
The French-born midfielder sealed a loan move to the 2004 Champions League winner during the winter transfer window and could now see his stay at the club extended following an impressive short stint.

Fofana began his career at Manchester City after rising through the youth ranks, but did not make a single appearance for the senior team before leaving the club. The experienced midfielder also played for several other clubs across France, Italy and also Saudi Arabia, before returning to the French Ligue 1 last summer to join Rennes.
However, he spent just one year at the club before falling out of favour, which also reduced his playing minutes. The 31-year-old went on to join Porto earlier in 2026 on a loan deal until the end of the season, and he has already become a major part of the team under Francesco Farioli.

The former Udinese midfielder has made 13 appearances in the Portuguese league this year, scoring three goals and providing four assists as Porto sealed the league title ahead of their rivals, while he also played four times in the Europa League before their elimination at the hands of Nottingham Forest in the quarterfinals.
Fofana plays primarily as a central midfielder, but can also be deployed in a much deeper role, given his ball retention ability and physicality. He has also been utilized in a more advanced midfield role by former coaches in the past, giving his side several options in cases of injury or tactical change.
How much could Seko Fofana cost Porto
According to Transfermarkt, Seko Fofana has a market value of around €8 million. However, Rennes paid around €20 million to sign the 31-year-old from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in 2025 and would be hoping to recoup close to that amount before considering a sale.
Personal terms would also need to be sorted out which could see the player take a pay cut on his current €3.6 million per year earnings. Porto’s total expenditure could be well above €20 million depending on the length of the contract he signs if a permanent deal is agreed between both clubs.

Meanwhile, Porto will look to act quickly in the transfer market, as several other clubs have been monitoring the situation of the midfielder after an impressive loan stint and could be looking to beat them to a deal.
