Former Nigerian left-back and Super Eagles great Benedict Iroha exclusively for Footy-Africa has sided with his compatriot Victor Osimhen over his decision to return to Turkish giants Galatasaray on a permanent contract.
Osimhen decided against joining Saudi Arabian top-flight outfit Al Hilal despite heavy monies involved, but also turned down interests from a host of top European sides, as he chose to permanently return to Galatasaray where he played on loan last season.
And, while there has been a lot of backlash from multiple people and outlets, Osimhen’s country-mate Iroha, who made over half-a-century appearances for Nigeria, has backed his decision, asking the world to respect his aspirations.
“I think it’s very disrespectful to question his decisions,” Iroha, who played for Elche and Watford, stated in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa. “Osimhen’s decision should be respected by everyone, because this team (Galatasaray) welcomed him when no one else did.”

Osimhen spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray from Italian giants Napoli, and the former are now determined to part with a huge €75 million, with €40 million getting paid upfront, and €35 million by the end of 2026.
“When you look at the way they welcomed and supported him all through the season, it was hard that he would reject them when they presented themselves. It’s the only way he can repay their love and support. And, besides, it’s not like Galatasaray is a small team, I think they should cut him some slack. He has nothing to prove right now, he’s an already established goalscorer.”
Osimhen excelled at Galatasaray last season, as he has scored 37 goals and assisted seven times in 41 appearances. He’s expected to excel further in the coming campaigns at Galatasaray, as he stamps his legacy at the club.
