Former Super Eagles and Strasbourg defender Godwin Okpara, in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, believes a move for Victor Osimhen to Paris Saint-Germain would represent a major step forward in his career and would also strengthen the French champions.

Speaking to Footy-Africa, Okpara said Osimhen would benefit greatly from a move to the European champions, given his previous experience in France and the quality he would bring to the squad.

“It will make them more stronger. For him going to PSG, he knows he has played in the French league and knows how everything goes,” the former PSG defender said.

“And I mean it’s a wonderful team for him, and it’s a team that wants to win everything. It’s a winning team. I know next year they will be planning to win the Champions League again, because the only team that had done it is Real Madrid back-to-back three times.”

“So I think, why not? PSG might be in that shoe too. So for him, going to PSG, it’ll be a very good thing for Osimhen and for Nigeria as a whole,” Okpara concluded.

Osimhen has long been at the centre of transfer speculation, even before his departure from Napoli in 2024, before eventually joining Galatasaray. He initially joined the Turkish champions on loan before the move was later made permanent for a Turkish record fee of €75 million last summer.

Although he remains under contract until 2029, the 27-year-old striker has been linked with a possible exit this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain among the clubs reportedly interested in strengthening their attack with the Nigerian forward.

The Super Eagles striker is already familiar with French football following his impressive spell at Lille during the 2019–20 season, where he was named the club’s Player of the Season and also won the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé award for the best African player in Ligue 1.

Galatasaray have made it clear they do not intend to sell Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window, although uncertainty remains over the future of the Nigerian forward.

However, there has been reports they would only consider offers in the region of €100 million or more before agreeing a deal. PSG are among the European clubs capable of meeting that valuation, as well as his salary demands, which could make a move for the striker possible in the coming weeks.
