The Super Eagles of Nigeria face Poland in an international friendly match in Warsaw as they look to build momentum just days after securing victory in the 2026 Unity Cup tournament.
Ayomide Oguntimehin provides the lowdown for the June 3 clash at the National Stadium in Warsaw.
Poland vs Nigeria match preview
Poland head into this clash with nothing to play for having missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament. The European side finished second behind Netherlands in group G and had to navigate the UEFA playoffs.
Despite beating Albania 2-1 in the semifinals, they were ultimately defeated by Sweden 3-2 in the final to end their chances of reaching the mundial in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Nigeria, on the other hand, also failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup tournament. The Super Eagles finished second in their group in the CAF qualifying rounds, but fell at the last hurdle to DR Congo.
Since then, they have gone on to finish in third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament and also recorded success in the 2026 Unity Cup, beating Zimbabwe and Jamaica on their way to victory.

Prediction
Nigeria are the better side at the moment and despite missing several of their key starters, they still have enough to hurt Poland and come out of this clash with a favourable result.
Recent form: Poland
Poland have been in poor form recently and have lost their last two games across all competitions, including a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine in an international friendly game last month.
The White and Reds have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last five matches, although they kept two in straight succession before their last five outings.

Recent form: Nigeria
Nigeria have been in superb form in recent outings and won both of their games convincingly at the 2026 Unity Cup tournament, defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 and also recording a 3-0 win over Jamaica in the final.
The Super Eagles are unbeaten in their last five, recording four wins and also keeping three clean sheets during that period.
Player to watch
Alex Iwobi (Nigeria)
Iwobi ‘deserves respect’ for consistency, says former Brentford defender Sodje
Fulham playmaker Alex Iwobi was absent from the Unity Cup tournament, but is expected to make his return to action against the European side.
Iwobi’s creativity and ability to dictate tempo would be very crucial if Nigeria are to get a favourable result from this encounter.
