Kenyan international Frank Odhiambo is a subject of interest from Belgian top-flight outfit K.A.A Gent FC, as they hope to sign him from Swedish side Djurgardens IF, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
This comes after Gent made their first formal approach to Djurgardens IF on Sunday, regarding the contract situation of the 22-year-old defender, who is currently on loan at another Swedish side IF Karlstad. His contract with Djurgardens is on until December 2026.
An exclusive source at the player’s representing agency EMG World Championship, has confirmed the contact and disclosed that negotiations between the two sides will commence on Monday in the coming week. Apparently, Gent intend to hand the highly rated defender a long-term five-year contract.
βGent made their contact on Saturday with Djurgardens and the plan is that they will pursue talks with an opening bid on Monday. They (Gent) have been impressed with how he (Odhiambo) has played on loan at IF Karlstad. The potential for him to turn into a top player is what is prompting them to table a five-year contract. He absolutely wants the move, so the personal terms won’t be an issue at the time of negotiations,β the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.
The versatile defender, whose TransferMarket valuation is estimated at β¬100,000, has played 14 matches at IF Karlstad on loan. In the 2023/24 campaign during his loan stint at AFC Eskilstuna, he made 23 appearances.
Odhiambo, who can also operate as a right-back and a defensive midfielder, has also previously featured for Swedish sides Vasalunds IF, IFK Haninge and Djurgardens U21, as well as Kenyan powerhouse Gor Mahia FC.
Meanwhile, his rise as a future national team star has seen him represent Kenya at the various youth level teams, including the U15, U17 and the U21. At the senior national team, the Harambee Stars, he has made four competitive appearances.
