Watford have completed the signing of highly-rated Nigerian defender Gorfort Amedu from domestic clubside FC One Rocket, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
The 19-year-old’s move to Vicarage Road comes after potential transfers to clubs in Finland and Latvia collapsed late in the window.
Footy-Africa understands that Amedu has put pen to paper on an initial short-term contract with the Hornets, which includes an option for a further extension based on his progress.
The teenager is expected to initially link up with Watford’s Under-21 squad to continue his development. However, club officials are also considering the option of sending the youngster out on loan to a team outside of England to gain valuable first-team experience.
Watford have a rich history of nurturing Nigerian talent, with international stars like Odion Ighalo, Maduka Okoye, Samuel Kalu, and Emmanuel Dennis all having featured for the Hertfordshire club in recent years.
Amedu will now be aiming to make an immediate impression in the youth ranks as he looks to secure a longer-term future in English football.
