Ugandan international defender Arnold Odong has confirmed he will leave SC Villa when his contract expires at the end of June, sparking interest from South African side Richards Bay and Uganda’s Kitara FC, Footy Africa has exclusively learned.

The 26-year-old’s exit comes after a highly successful two-year stint at the club, during which he helped SC Villa clinch the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League title—ending the club’s long wait for silverware.

“It’s time up at this amazing club after two years that I am massively proud of,” Odong told Footy Africa. “I came to Villa with goals and a dream to win the Uganda Premier League, a feat I managed, so I’m incredibly grateful for the time and moments.”

While staying tight-lipped on the next chapter of his career, Odong acknowledged that discussions are ongoing:

“My camp is doing whatever it takes to get another good home for me, and I have to be patient and trust the process. I know I’ll get to a team that will fit my style and ambitions. The focus is to keep growing and maturing into a better player. I want to win things wherever I go.”

Odong has made 55 appearances for SC Villa across all competitions over the past two seasons, including 27 games in the 2023/24 campaign, contributing one goal and two assists. His towering presence and leadership have been instrumental in the club’s recent resurgence.

A versatile defender who can also operate as a right-back or central midfielder, Odong has earned two caps for the Uganda Cranes, the national team, and continues to be on the radar for international duty.

As speculation grows around potential moves to South Africa’s Richards Bay or Uganda Cup holders Kitara FC, all eyes will be on where the experienced defender lands next.
