Tanzanian heavyweights Azam FC could be forced to shelve their pursuit of prolific striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe after being discouraged by KCCA FC’s hefty asking price for the forward, Footy-Africa understands.
The Dar es Salaam-based outfit have identified Ahimbisibwe as one of their priority targets during the current transfer window, but negotiations have been complicated by KCCA’s valuation of their prized marksman.
Footy-Africa sources have indicated that the financial package demanded by the Lugogo-based club exceeds what Azam recently spent to secure winger Hassan Mubiru from SC Villa.
Azam reportedly parted with $130,000 to land Mubiru, yet KCCA are understood to be seeking a considerably larger fee for Ahimbisibwe, a stance that has left the Tanzanian side weighing alternative options in the market. Nevertheless, interest in the striker remains alive, with club officials continuing to monitor developments surrounding his future.
Ahimbisibwe set for Azam FC move, KCCA agree to a deal with Tanzanian giants
Ahimbisibwe still has one year remaining on the two-year contract he signed upon joining KCCA at the beginning of the recently concluded season, placing the Kampala club in a strong negotiating position.
The forward’s impressive scoring record has only strengthened his value. He finished the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League campaign as the division’s leading scorer with 14 goals, further cementing his reputation as one of the country’s most reliable finishers. Prior to his move to KCCA, he struck 16 league goals for URA FC, ending the 2024/25 season just three behind Golden Boot winner Allan Okello.
His rise through Ugandan football has been a steady one, having started out at Synergy before spells with Nyamityobora, UPDF and URA, where he developed into one of the league’s most feared attacking threats.
With KCCA standing firm on their valuation and Azam reluctant to stretch beyond their budget, the coming weeks could determine whether the Tanzanian club intensify their efforts or redirect their attention elsewhere in search of attacking reinforcements.
