Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello capped an outstanding campaign by helping Young Africans SC secure the 2025/26 Tanzania NBC Premier League title after a convincing 3-0 victory over JKT Tanzania on Tuesday.

Yanga entered the final day needing a win to guarantee the championship and produced a dominant display, with Prince Dube, Maxi Nzengeli and Clement Mzize all finding the back of the net to seal the club’s fifth successive league crown.

The Dar es Salaam giants completed the season on 75 points, narrowly finishing ahead of bitter rivals Simba SC, who accumulated 73 points after pushing the title race to the final round. Azam FC and Singida Black Stars rounded off the league’s top four positions.

Okello played a central role in Yanga’s successful title defence despite arriving midway through the campaign following his transfer from Vipers SC. The attacking midfielder settled quickly into the squad and became one of the league’s most influential performers, ending the season with 14 goals in just 24 appearances.

His impressive tally earned him third place in the Golden Boot standings, behind Singida Black Stars striker Mossi Nduwumwe, who claimed the award with 17 goals, while Azam FC playmaker Feisal Salum finished second on 15.

Beyond his goalscoring exploits, Okello also contributed eight assists, underlining his all-round attacking quality throughout the campaign. One of his standout performances came in Yanga’s penultimate fixture, where he scored a hat-trick in a commanding 3-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons to move the champions within touching distance of retaining the title.

The 24-year-old’s remarkable form has continued to attract attention beyond Tanzania, with speculation linking him to a potential move abroad. Among the clubs reportedly monitoring the Ugandan international is Turkish SΓΌper Lig outfit FenerbahΓ§e.

With the domestic season now complete, Young Africans and Simba SC have secured Tanzania’s places in next season’s CAF Champions League, while Azam FC and Singida Black Stars will fly the country’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Elsewhere, KMC and Mtibwa Sugar suffered relegation after finishing in the bottom two. Tanzania Prisons and Mbeya City, who placed 13th and 14th respectively, will battle for survival in the relegation play-offs.

The winner of that contest will preserve their place in the top flight, while the defeated side will face the winner of the Championship play-off between Mbeya Kwanza and Police Tanzania to determine the final team that will feature in next season’s Tanzania NBC Premier League.
