The 2026 UEFA Super Cup final will hold on Wednesday night with UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain going up against Europa League winners Aston Villa at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg.
Ayomide Oguntimehin provides the lowdown for the encounter.
PSG vs Aston Villa match preview
PSG won a second consecutive UCL trophy last season following their penalty shootout win over Premier League champions Arsenal in the final in May. The French side also recorded victory in the 2024-25 final, when they thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 to set up a date with Tottenham Hotspur in the Super Cup.
They won that clash on penalties and are looking to win a second title this time around. Luis Enriqueโs side have already signed the likes of Lucas Digne and Maghnes Akliouche this summer, while they are closing in on a move for Ferran Torres and Mika Godts.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, recorded a dominant 3-0 win over Bundesliga side Freiburg to set up this encounter. That win also qualified them for the Champions League this season as well. Villa have already signed Johan Mazambi from Freiburg in a club record deal, Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea and Joao Gomes as well, while England international Morgan Rogers has already left the club to join Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Prediction
The last two matches between both sides produced multiple goals and with their recent defensive lapses, this game should be a high scoring encounter.
Recent form: PSG
PSG are winless in both of their preseason friendly matches so far, losing 3-0 to Spanish side Mallorca, before recording a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in their previous outing.
They are without a clean sheet in any of those games, although they were much improved and managed to score a goal in their last game.

Recent form: Aston Villa
Aston Villa have been inconsistent in preseason so far, winning three and losing three of their six matches so far.
Villa are off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich and they have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last five appearances.
Player to watch
Ibrahim Mbaye (PSG)
The Senegalese forward will be hoping to play a big role when called upon in this clash as PSG look to open their season with a piece of silverware.
Ibrahim Mbaye‘s pace and ability to shoot outside the box will cause problems for Aston Villaโs defence in the encounter.
