Ugandan teenage midfielder Abubakali Walusimbi is on the verge of completing a major move to Czech giants SK Slavia Praha, with his official unveiling expected imminently following his departure from Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
The 17-year-old midfielder is regarded as one of Uganda’s most promising young talents and is now poised to take the biggest step of his fledgling career by moving to European football.
Walusimbi came through the ranks at Vipers, developing through the club’s youth structures before earning his opportunity with the senior side.
His rapid rise has been accompanied by an impressive medal collection. Despite his tender age, Walusimbi has already been part of Vipers teams that won two Uganda Premier League titles and one Uganda Cup, underlining how quickly he has established himself within one of Uganda’s most successful clubs.
His development also caught the attention of the national team selectors. Walusimbi has represented Uganda at youth level, including the U15s, before becoming an important member of the Cubs setup.
He was part of the Uganda U17 side that made history by qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, the country’s first appearance at the global tournament. FUFA named him in the final 21-man squad and later identified him as one of the team’s leadership figures, with Walusimbi serving as one of the vice-captains.
His performances had already made him stand out before the World Cup. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) named Walusimbi as the best player of the 2024 CECAFA U17 tournament, describing him as a technically gifted midfielder with excellent vision and highlighting his importance as a creative force in Uganda’s midfield.
At the World Cup itself, Walusimbi further enhanced his reputation. He registered a goal and an assist and ranked among Uganda’s leading players for duels won at the global event.
Footy-Africa in September 2025 revealed that Walusimbi was in the Czech Republic finalising a move to Slavia Prague, with the club viewing him as a long-term investment and initially planning for him to develop within its youth setup before progressing towards the senior team. He’s now set for official unveiling.
The switch represents a remarkable progression for a player who is still only 17. From Vipers’ youth ranks and Uganda’s junior national teams to the global stage at the U17 World Cup, Walusimbi is now preparing to begin a new chapter in European football.
While Walusimbi’s immediate pathway is expected to involve development with Slavia’s youth setup, his arrival puts him within the orbit of a club competing at Europe’s highest level.
For Ugandan football, it is another significant milestone in the development of one of its brightest young prospects, and potentially the beginning of an extraordinary European adventure for the Vipers academy graduate.
