FK Liepaja have further increased the Nigerian presence in their squad with the signing of highly rated young centre-back Favour Itode from Nigerian side Right2Win, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The 18-year-old defender has joined the Latvian club on a long-term deal as he continues his development in European football. Liepaja, who have been competing in the UEFA Conference League, see Itode as a promising addition to their squad.
The left-footed centre-back has been regarded as one of the promising young defenders in Nigeria’s lower divisions and academy football, particularly following his impressive performances in youth competitions, including the N-Youth League.
Itode’s ability to play out from the back, combined with his physical attributes and versatility, has made him an attractive prospect for clubs looking to develop young talent.
Kelechi Nnorom, Chief Executive Officer of Right2Win, exclusively told Footy-Africa that Itode has the qualities and attitude required to enjoy a successful career.
โHe is a humble player who listens and is always willing to learn, so I am not surprised he is where he is now. Favour has been a good example since we scouted him and brought him into our team.โ
โI can tell you he is a ball-playing centre-back. He is a left-footed centre-back who can also play in a defensive midfield position.โ
โHe has good height because he is tall, which makes him good with aerial balls. For me and others at our club, we felt he will develop well in Latvia and achieve great things if he continues being humble.โ
Nnorom revealed that Itode had attracted interest from other clubs before deciding to move to Liepaja.
โTo be honest, there were a few clubs also interested in him. I cannot mention their names for obvious reasons. However, he is in a good place, and we wish him all the best,โ he added.
Itode will join compatriot Michael Okafor at FK Liepaja after the young forward also completed a move to the ambitious Latvian club.
