Ghanaian left-back David Oduro has joined French Ligue 2 side Annecy from Barcelona in a deal worth slightly over €200,000, with Barcelona also securing 50 percent of his future sale, Footy-Africa can report.

The 20-year-old accepted Barcelona’s late decision to allow him to leave this summer after the club opted to part ways with him despite his contract running until June 2027.

Barcelona had earlier rejected a proposal from Austrian side Sturm Graz for Oduro, with the club’s offer understood to have included similar terms to the eventual agreement. At the time, Barcelona wanted to assess how their squad would be structured before deciding on the Ghanaian’s future.

With the situation at left-back now clearer, Barcelona sanctioned his departure and an agreement was eventually reached for Oduro to continue his development in France.

Sources close to the deal have told Footy-Africa that the initial plan was for Aston Villa to sign Oduro and send him on loan to Annecy, which is owned by the same V Sports group as the Premier League club.

However, the final structure was changed, with Annecy completing the signing directly from Barcelona. Oduro will therefore officially be an Annecy player rather than a Villa player on loan.

Barcelona will receive slightly more than €200,000 from the transfer and have also negotiated a 50 percent future-sale clause, giving the Spanish club a significant financial interest in the Ghanaian’s development.

Oduro joined Barcelona from Accra Lions in August 2024, becoming the first Ghanaian player to sign for the Catalan giants directly from Ghana.

He made 23 appearances for Barça Atlètic during the 2025/26 season, scoring once and providing one assist, while also helping Barcelona win the UEFA Youth League during his first season.
