Ghanaian defender Rufai Mohammed’s loan move to Venezia includes an option that could see the Italian club complete a permanent transfer worth almost €4.5 million, sources have exclusively told Footy-Africa.
The 20-year-old centre-back has joined the Serie A newcomers from Swedish club IF Elfsborg on loan until the end of the 2026/27 season.
According to a source close to the player, Venezia will pay approximately €448,000 for the loan, while the agreement includes an option to make Mohammed’s move permanent for around €2.69 million.
A further €1.35 million in bonuses has also been included in the agreement, taking the potential total value of the deal to approximately €4.48 million if all conditions are met.
Elfsborg have also secured a sell-on clause, which could provide the Swedish club with additional financial benefits should Mohammed leave Venezia permanently in the future.
Mohammed joined Elfsborg from Ghanaian club Inter Allies in March 2024 before spending the following season on loan at IFK Värnamo.
He made 16 appearances in the Swedish top flight for Värnamo, scoring twice, before returning to Elfsborg.
Mohammed has made 18 appearances across competitions for Elfsborg this season, scoring once and providing one assist in the league. He also scored once in the Svenska Cupen.

His performances attracted interest from several clubs, including Portuguese giants Sporting, but Venezia ultimately won the race for his signature.
The move represents a major step in Mohammed’s career, with the Ghanaian now set to continue his development in Serie A.
