Ghanaian defender Rufai Mohammed is close to joining Serie A side Venezia from Swedish club IF Elfsborg, Footy-Africa can report.
The 20-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from Italy after impressing in Sweden, with Venezia now working to complete a deal for his services.
Sources have told Footy-Africa that the transfer is nearing completion after Venezia and Elfsborg reached an agreement, with the Italian club set to beat Sporting to Mohammed’s signature.
Sporting had been monitoring the Ghanaian defender and were considering making a move for him next summer, but Venezia’s interest has accelerated his departure from Sweden.
Mohammed joined Elfsborg from Ghanaian club Inter Allies FC in 2024 before spending last season on loan at IFK Vรคrnamo. He made 16 Allsvenskan appearances for Vรคrnamo, scoring twice.

He returned to Elfsborg in 2026 and has made 15 league appearances this season, including six starts, while providing one assist.
The defender extended his Elfsborg contract in March, keeping him at the club until 2029. His performances, however, have now earned him the opportunity to move to Italy.
Mohammed is regarded as a physically strong centre-back with a good aerial game and has steadily developed since moving to Europe.
