Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi‘s future at Nottingham Forest remains uncertain due to speculations of a move away from the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

After battling with several injury concerns and inconsistency, the former Liverpool forward has lost his spot in Forest’s starting team to Chris Wood, and the recent arrival of Brazil striker Igor Jesus from Botafogo will likely limit his chances of playing.

Awoniyi would need to consider a transfer to another club in search of regular game time, to boost his chances of making Nigeria’s squad for the African Cup of Nations later this year.

Here are four potential destinations for the Super Eagles striker before the end of the transfer window.

Top 5 Nigerian footballers to switch clubs before deadline

West Ham United (England)

English Premier League side West Ham United have previously expressed interest in signing Nigeria striker Taiwo Awoniyi and had an offer rejected by Nottingham Forest in January. The Hammers have been depleted by the departure of Michail Antonio, who departed the club at the end of the season, while Niclas Fullkrug’s recurring injury issues makes Awoniyi an ideal option in attack.

The club could offer to meet Nottingham Forest’s evaluation for the striker, while a loan deal could also be on the cards to seal a move for the 28-year-old.

Newcastle United (England)

Taiwo Awoniyi’s physicality and Premier League experience makes him a perfect fit for Newcastle United. With Alexander Isak likely to leave the club this summer, the Magpies could turn to the Super Eagles star, having already missed out on Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United.

Leeds United (England)

Newly-promoted English Premier League side Leeds United have also previously registered their interest in signing Awoniyi and could offer a possible escape for the Nigerian striker.

The 28-year-old is Premier League proven and the Whites would benefit greatly from his experience, as they look to retain top-flight status at the end of the campaign.

Everton (England)

The Toffees could also serve as an alternative option for Taiwo Awoniyi as they bid to strengthen their attack. The departures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay has significantly weakened the attack, making the club a potential destination for Awoniyi.

With few weeks until the end of the summer transfer window, Taiwo Awoniyi’s limited playing time at Forest could prompt him to push for a move away from the club in search of more playing minutes.
