The Ligue 1, France’s top flight league, has always been a good place for Nigerian footballers to shine. The likes of legendary goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Jay-Jay Okocha, Taye Taiwo and most recently Victor Osimhen, all rose to prominence while playing in the French league, delivering standout performances in their team’s hunt for success.

The 2025/26 French Ligue 1 season got underway last weekend after a three-month break, with several Nigerian talents in action aiming to build on the legacy of the legends before them.

This list explores four Nigerian players to watch out for in the 2025/26 EPL.

Moses Simon (Paris FC)

After six seasons with Nantes, Nigerian winger Moses Simon completed a switch to newly-promoted side Paris FC, who are making a first appearance in the French top flight in 46 years, in a deal worth up to €7 million earlier in the summer.

The 29-year-old was an influential figure during his time at Lai Canaria and his new club will benefit greatly from his wealth of experience as they hope to retain their top flight status at the end of the season. Simon’s pace and impressive dribbling skills makes him a constant threat to defenders and he will be relied upon to lead the attack for Les Blues.

Terem Moffi (Nice)

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi continues his return to full fitness after suffering a cruciate ligament tear last summer. He missed majority of the 2024/25 campaign, and was limited to just five appearances on his return from the lengthy layoff.

Moffi joined Nice in 2023 on an initial loan deal from Lorient and will be looking to rediscover his best form, shown before his unfortunate injury, as he leads the line for Lea Aiglons.

Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes)

Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem sealed a return to Nantes on a three-year deal in the summer, having previously spent the 2017/18 season on loan at the club. The experienced defender produced a solid performance on his debut for the club, in the 1-0 defeat to PSG in their league opener last weekend.

Awaziem strengthens the backline and his consistency will be vital to Nantes chances of having a strong season.

Gabriel Osho (Auxerre)

Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho joined Auxerre in 2024, following the expiration of his contract at English side Luton Town, and is developing into one of the most consistent players at the club.

The 27-year-old featured 20 times in the league last season and will be eyeing a more crucial role as the team fights to retain their top flight status for another season.
